A Guide To Finding The Best Indoor Tanning Lotion

By

The Difference Between Regular Sunblock and Indoor Tanning Lotions

There is actually a difference between beach-wearing sunblock and indoor tanning bed lotions. Spending a day, or even a few hours, at the beach often requires copious amounts of 30SPF sunblock protection in order to protect your skin from burning. (Well, depending on where you live - in the UK, for instance, you can forget sunblock; your main need is for a fold-up seat to avoid the discomfort of rocks and stones). When lying under a tanning bed for twenty minutes, however, your requirements are vastly different. Indoor tanning is for shorter, more concentrated timeframes with the ojective of lotion to aide in the tanning process, whilst, generally speaking, spending indefinate periods of time outdoors your main aim should be to protect your skin. In order to find the best tanning lotions for your indoor requirements, there are two important things you need to consider.

You might need to try a few before finding the best indoor tanning lotion for your comfort and needs

Strength of the Lotion

Strength as measured by SPF (sun protection factor). As you are in a controlled environment, there is a much more scientific way of going about darkening your skin in an indoor tanning bed than outside. You can precisely decide and implement the length of time you want to spend under UV rays and at what strength the UV rays are to be. The most popular thing to do in this situation is to get a low SPF lotion, and only stay under the lights for a short amount of time, such as twenty minutes to half an hour. Due to the shorter time exposure, your tanning bed lotions should also have less strength to make the exercise worth while.

Stickiness!

Some lotions (the oily ones more than the creamy ones) are very wet and sticky. These lotions are fine for outdoor tanning, but when using home tanning beds, this creates an unnecessary cleanup. Your skin makes horrible sticky sounds when getting up, and cleaning the tanning bed bulbs can be a real pain in the backside that would be avoided if using a not-so-sticky lotion. Also, regardless of what lotion you're using, it is advisable to wait a few minutes after applying so that the lotion is properly absorbed before getting in the tanning bed. Otherwise you risk the lotion rubbing off or being sweated out, leaving you exposed. But mostly, it's a pain to clean.
